Support Group
For persons who are living with HIV/AIDS, there exists a need for a strong social support system. However, for some, this support is missing in their lives. In response, West Alabama AIDS Outreach offers a support group meeting once a month on Thursdays. This group meets at our office. Please see the calendar for the next meeting day and time.
Goals of the Support Group
- To allow clients and opportunity to share their stories, discuss common issues, and identify barrier to services in a safe and confidential environment.
- To encourage feedback and support of peers who may be encountering difficulties and to help persons who are newly diagnosed.
- To help clients become better educators about HIV/AIDS.
- To identify stigmas associated with HIV/AIDS and develop a plan for dealing with negative perceptions within the community.
- Clients help clients learn how to live healthier and happier lives as a person living with HIV/AIDS
- To identify individual roles in prevention and promoting responsible sexual behavior.
